In an effort to expand on our commitment to stewardship of fruit-growing land beyond our California farms, Wild River has leveraged our decades of experience growing, handling and marketing organic fruit to cultivate partnerships with value-aligned family farms in Guatemala, and other regions of Latin America. One of the first fruits of this labor is Organic Rambutan, sourced from our friends, who were among the first to grow this unique fruit in the region more than 30 years ago in Guatemala's Eastern Highlands.

UNIQUE GROWING PRACTICES

Located in a unique microclimate in the lush mountains more than 600 meters in elevation above Lake Izabal, the largest lake in Guatemala, the farms capitalize on the ecosystem services provided by their native vegetation, avian life, insects and fungi to steward their land organically, without the use of harmful pesticides, fungicides or herbicides.

HOW TO ENJOY

Simply pull or slice the skin & enjoy (Mind the pit!).

Blend in a smoothie, add to a cocktail or mix in a fruit salad.

Fruit skin and hairs (spinterns) dry out and blacken in days after cutting from the tree, but the flesh remains fresh and unaffected for several weeks.

Store in cool & humid conditions: Optimal 45-55 degrees Fahrenheit & 90-95% humidity.

FLAVOR

The farms share our commitment to full flavor. They have selected the highest flavor rambutan varieties and allow their fruit to mature at its own natural pace without the use of growth hormones or synthetic chemicals. Their rambutan boasts a juicy and rose-like sweetness reminiscent of Muscat grapes and measures 20 brix, while most rambutan fruit typically averages in the range of 16-18 soluble solids.
